Chairman's Speech

A Message from OBE Chairman

A speech by Mr. Bernard Ampaw, Chairman, Original Black Entertainment Television Limited (OBETV) on 18 December 2004 marking the channel's one year broadcasting anniversary. Really, has it been that long? No. Far from it. The reason is simple. OBE TV has come to represent a strong beacon of hope, a key platform for sowing the seeds of aspirations and the realistic feeling of the actualisation of those aspirations.

Launched on November 5, 2003, OBE TV has in this time span created a sort of cult following throught the originality of its content concept and delivery strategy. Add to these, the unshaken determination and dedication; the vision and vigour and, of course, the professionalism and passion to carry on regardless.

The broad vision of OBETV is to provide a platform for the critical, crucial and significant discourse of issues and questions facing People of Colour both at home in the diaspora. These are the primary targeted audiences and viewers across the North of Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe, and United States and beyond. The non-core audiences and viewers are also catered for throught targeted programmes. We understand that People of Colour are big, powerful, beautiful people; people with high octane passion, love and high octane intelligence. The future of this world will be shaped by the contributions and drive of Black People.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Executive Director, Catherine Ampaw, who doubles as my tireless and loving and loveable wife. She has been the backbone of our operations and our success. I would also like to thank our Director of Production, George Boateng for his creative energy, our Marketing Director, Emerson Braithwaite for his entrepreneurial skills, drive; also the entire staff of OBE TV engaged in operations, strategy, productions, transmission, marketing, administration and all our partners - both media and otherwise. Without you, all these would not be possible.

Without taking any more of your time, I thank you once more for honouring our invitations and for being here tonight. OBE TV is just a remote control away - in terms of viewing and in terms of investment.

Thank you
