Movies
AFRICAN MOVIES have come a long way. During the colonial era, films about Africa were only represented by colonial film-makers and were filmed from a non-African perspective, without history or culture. Films like Tarzan and King Solomon’s Mines are typical examples. One of the first African films which gained International recognition was La Noire De (The Black Girl) where the producer turned to the cinema to increase viewership to a wider population. African film makers like the Ghanaian producer of Love Brewed in the African Pot and Heritage Africa, Kwaw Ansah have been instrumental in promoting films about Africa.
The first African Film Festival was staged in Burkina Faso in 1969 and it was around the same time that the African Film Federation was also founded.

The aim was to give Africans the forum to showcase their creativity. Thus, over the past two decades, there’s been an upsurge of high quality films scripted, produced and directed by talented Africans.
Competition across Africa is now rife.
