The first African Film Festival was staged in Burkina Faso in 1969 and it was around the same time that the African Film Federation was also founded.

The aim was to give Africans the forum to showcase their creativity. Thus, over the past two decades, there’s been an upsurge of high quality films scripted, produced and directed by talented Africans.
Competition across Africa is now rife.
Some big names coming out of Africa today in the film industry are from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Gambia and Mali.
UK and the USA are also capitalizing on some home grown talents from the African Continent.
The African Movie Industry has an estimated turnover of $250 million per year.
African films are now watched and enjoyed across the world and OBE is proud to be part of this revolution.
